NEWS FLASH:

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has thrown Katsina's weight behind President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour, unveiling a comprehensive three-pillar strategy to combat climate change.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, formally unveiled the initiative at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, describing the tour as a national movement designed to translate climate awareness into measurable action.

He urged governors, private sector leaders, development partners, and young Nigerians to take the lead in repositioning the country for a low-carbon future.

In his remarks, Governor Radda who was  represented by his Special Adviser on Climate Change, Professor Al Amin Mohammed noted that Katsina faces acute climate threats including desertification, rainfall variability, and soil degradation that threatens food security and livelihoods.

"For frontline states like Katsina, climate change is not abstract—it is real and urgent," the Governor stated.

He outlined three strategic pillars driving Katsina's response, noting that the state will mainstream climate adaptation and resilience through climate-smart agriculture, expanded irrigation systems, and agroforestry programs to combat land degradation.

Governor Radda also noted that Katsina will pursue green economic transition by promoting decentralized renewable energy, solar-powered irrigation, and green value chains to reduce energy poverty while lowering carbon emissions.

He equally added that the state will mobilize climate finance and strengthen governance by developing bankable climate projects and establishing a climate coordination desk to attract federal and international funding.

"Climate finance must reach the farmer, the smallholder, the rural entrepreneur," Radda emphasized.

The Governor called for vertical alignment between federal policy and state implementation, stressing that data-driven decision-making through climate modelling and agricultural digitization will drive measurable results. Radda pledged Katsina's full collaboration with the Federal Government to advance national adaptation strategies, renewable energy expansion, and sustainable land management.

"Climate change is a development multiplier. Our responsibility is to ensure it becomes a catalyst for resilience, productivity, and shared prosperity," he declared.

The event attracted high-profile attendees including the Ministers of Environment and Livestock, the National Climate Council Director-General, representatives from 21 state governors, assembly members, and business leaders.
